“Our base understanding of the city within context of the UAE, is a space of fantasy, frivolity, iconography, and symbolism, detached from the entrails that supply human need. By Contrast, our base understanding of that which exists outside of this urban environment is simply the vast expanse of the emptiness of the desert. Yet, a relationship exists between the two. During this urban analysis, we will engage in a quest to understand Dubai and Sharjah’s Peri-Urbanity and look to the ways in which that which surrounds the city, can dawn urban characteristics of its own.”
